For nearly 180 years, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) has preserved and showcased Tasmania’s natural history treasures in Australia’s second-oldest museum. Originating from collections curated by the Royal Society of Tasmania – established in 1843 – TMAG is now an iconic precinct housing one of Australia’s most historically significant sites, namely, its oldest surviving public building dating back to 1845. As a combined museum, art gallery and herbarium safeguarding physical evidence of both cultural identity as well as heritage exclusively for this beautiful island state – it stands steadfast against time itself!
